Cyprus Ports Authority and Port of Alexandria Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

29/01/2015
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed today between the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Port of Alexandria in the presence of Minister of Communication and Works Marios Demetriades and Egyptian Minister of Transport Hany Dahy.

The Egyptian Minister, who is currently in Cyprus on an official visit, held a meeting with the President and the members of the Board of the Cyprus Ports Authority, following which the President of the Authority, Alekos Michaelides, told local news sources that the Memorandum of Cooperation signed today will be further developed so as to specify the projects on which the two sides could cooperate in the future.

Michaelides also referred to the prospects for the construction of a ferry connection between Cyprus and Egypt, revealing that the two sides agreed to examine the conditions which could allow for such a project.

A ferry connection between the two countries could be greatly beneficial to Cyprus, as it would open the door for Cypriots to visit the African continent, as well as for Egyptians to visit the island.
