The outlook for tourism in Cyprus, and especially in Paphos, is strengthening following Lufthansa’s decision to expand its flight operations to Paphos Airport. The move is expected to enhance connectivity with the German market and attract a growing number of visitors in the coming years.
Recently, Paphos welcomed a large group of German travel professionals, many of whom believe that 2026 could mark a notable rise in arrivals from Germany. Industry representatives point to Lufthansa’s plan to significantly increase direct services to Paphos, with flights set to operate from major German cities. The expanded schedule will also allow travelers to access Paphos through the airline’s extensive international network.
Despite Germany being Europe’s most populous country and one of the world’s leading economies, it currently represents a relatively modest share of Cyprus’s tourism market. However, tourism stakeholders see strong potential for growth, particularly as German travelers tend to avoid peak travel periods, supporting efforts to extend the tourist season.
German travel agents who recently visited Paphos highlighted the island’s mild winter climate as well as visible improvements in the town’s infrastructure and urban development. Expectations from the German market suggest visitor numbers could increase by more than 10 percent in 2026. At the same time, official tourism data indicates that German visitors rank among the highest spenders, making the market especially valuable for Cyprus.
