Festive guided tours in nature await!

January 3, 2022

As part of the five Christmas villages set up around the Troodos mountain communities, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has also organised nature walks to combine the visits to the villages with outdoorsy experiences to get closer to the essence of the island.

Several guided walks will be held in the first week of January, inviting people to explore the nature trails that surround these mountain villages, learn about Cyprus’ endemic species and enjoy viewpoints that promise to take your breath away. What’s more is they are completely free to attend, just make sure to book a spot by filling in the form on the Visit Cyprus website.

On the first day of the year, a morning guided walk will be held in Platres, setting off at 10.30am to hike the Millomeris trail. In Kalopanagiotis village another walk will take place on January 1 at 2.30pm. The hike will pass by the river trail, Saint John Lampadistis Monastery and through part of the village.

Two more walks are scheduled for January 2, the first follows the Tishia tis Madaris trail in Kyperounta at 10.30am and the second follows the Millomeris trail again in Platres at 2.30pm. On January 3, another guided walk will set off from Platres at 2.30pm, taking on a circular route around the village to focus on local architecture, crafts and workshops. The hike on the Tishia tis Madaris trail will again take place on January 3, yet this time leaving from Agros at 10.30am.

For something more picturesque, a hike passing through old Kakopetria and down the Vateri nature trail will take place on the morning of January 4 passing by wooden bridges, the river and tall, green trees. A couple more guided tours in nature will be held until January 6 when the Christmas villages wrap up.
