Tourism Revenue Records an Increase of 11.7%

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €55.8 mn in December 2017 compared to €50.9 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 9.6%.

For the period of January – December 2017 revenue from tourism is estimated at €2,639.1 mn compared to €2,363.4 mn in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 11.7%.

The expenditure per person for December 2017 reached €564.21 compared to €578.91 in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording a decrease of 2.5%. The expenditure per person/per day for December 2017 compared to December 2016 also recorded a decrease of 6.4%. 

In December 2017 a decrease of 21.5% was recorded for the expenditure per person for tourists from the United Kingdom (from €784.83 in December 2016 to €616.29 in December 2017), 9.7% increase from Greece (from €332.99 to €365.17 this year) and 5.3% increase from Russia (from €631.88 to €665.15 this year).

The expenditure per person/per day for tourists from the United Kingdom recorded a decrease of 18.0% (from €66.51 in December 2016 to €54.54 in December 2017), the expenditure per person/per day for tourists from Greece also decreased by 5.3% (from €40.61 to €38.44) and for tourists from Russia decreased by 23.6% (from €77.06 to €58.86). 

The expenditure per person for the period of January – December 2017 reached €722.62 compared to €741.68 in the corresponding period of the previous year, recording a decrease of 2.6%. The expenditure per person/per day for the period of January – December 2017 compared to the period of January – December 2016 also recorded a decrease of 2.6% (from €78.07 to €76.07).
