First Cobalt plane lands in Larnaca

The first plane of new Cypriot airliner Cobalt Air landed at Larnaca Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

The Airbus A320-233 – which is currently bare white and without the blue and white patterned colouring and logo of Cobalt – is set to be inspected by the Civil Aviation Authority before it can be given its Air Operating Certificate.

It will become the first Cypriot-flagged aircraft since the collapse of the island’s national carrier Cyprus Airways.
The aircraft, which is arriving from Ireland, will also be received by the Cobalt board and hierarchy. Members of the new crew members are also expected to be there.

The plane will be painted and emblazoned with the logo once the certificate has been issued. Another Airbus A320 will also arrive once the certificate is issued for the first plane.

Larger planes – including that of an A330 – are expected to arrive on the island in the summer of 2017. That aircraft will be performing long flights to destinations in China, India, South Africa and North America.
