Cyprus’ Beaches Named Cleanest in Europe for 10th Year

Cyprus’ immaculate beaches have been named the cleanest in Europe for the 10th consecutive year, with a total of 57 local coastlines receiving the Blue Flag certification this year.

In addition to these, many more beaches were declared to be excellent swimming spots by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which has extended more than 4000 Blue Flags to beaches and marinas in 49 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean.

This award denotes that a beach meets its standards in water quality, safety, services and environmental management criteria. Beaches awarded the certificate have the right to hoist a blue flag denoting clean waters and adequate facilities. The FEE said Europe's most pristine beaches are to be found in Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Germany and Malta, respectively.
