Pope Benedict XVI will visit the Republic of Cyprus on 4th June 2010. Pope Benedict XVI, accepted the invitation extended to him by the President of the Republic, Mr. Demetris Christofias, during his visit to the Vatican, last March.

He will be the first Pope in modern history to visit the Mediterranean island. The Pope's schedule will include an official reception ceremony at Paphos airport on his arrival after which the Pope will depart for the Church of Ayia Kyriaki in Kato Paphos, where he will hold an hour-long, outdoor Divine Liturgy service. Saint Paul preached in Paphos in the first century and Catholics consider the area sacred to their faith. His trip will also include the blessing of St Michaels Hospice which hopefully, will be near completion by then.
