The Rise of the Tourist Market: Arrivals Up 14% in 2015


The tourism sector continues to follow its upward trajectory according to relevant data released Friday by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, which has recorded a 13.7% increase in arrivals for the first quarter of 2015, further indication of the successful summer season industry experts have thus far predicted. 

Indeed, tourist arrivals in April 2015 alone noted a 11.3% increase year-on-year, with visitors reaching 201,495 in total. This data is based on the results of the Service’s most recent Passenger Survey. More specifically, an increase of 13.3% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, 71.8% increase from Greece and 9.2% increase from Germany. 

Meanwhile, a decrease of 22.5% was noted in arrivals from Russia. For the period January–April 2015, arrivals of tourists totalled 391,483 compared to the 344,435 recorded during the corresponding period of 2014.
