Paphos readies for presidential inauguration of projects


President Nicos Anastasiades will inaugurate five urban regeneration projects in Paphos this weekend, according to Paphos municipality.

A spokesman said that Anastasiades would visit Paphos on Sunday and that celebrations would be held at Kennedy Square.

“The president will launch these new projects… they are projects that have changed Paphos and shaped their image for the decades to come,” he said.

The event at Kennedy Square will include a greeting from the mayor of Paphos, Phedonas Phe-donos, and the director of European and investment funds of European programmes, a speech by the president, a short film about the projects that are being inaugurated, an artistic programme by the Paphos music school and the Philharmonic orchestra of the municipality of Paphos.The projects include the upgrading of the traditional centre and Kennedy Square, the connection and upgrading of October 28, Dionysios Solomos and Kosti Palama squares, the remodelling of sites in Mouttallos, the upgrading of Governor’s Square and its buildings including the District Admin-istration, as well as the work to improvement a section of Evagoras Pallikaridis Avenue and Andreas Tselelepou and Zenonos Kitionos Streets.

“The president will reveal a commemorative plaque and there will be an open reception,” he add-ed.

Prior to the event the president will be taken on a tour of the works.

As well as an issue by the municipality, Phedonos announced the news via social media noting his now well-known slogan: “Paphos is changing and celebrating!”
