The Cosmonaut Alexander Volkov at the Coral Beach Hotel in Paphos

The well-known Soviet cosmonaut Alexander Volkov has recently spent his holidays at the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort in Paphos. Mr. Volkov stated that he was very pleased with the high standard of service he received from the hotel as well as the very friendly management and helpful staff.

At a young age, Volkov witnessed Yuri Gagarin become the first man in space and this inspired him to become a cosmonaut. He joined the Soviet space program and became a test pilot before realizing his dream. Furthermore, he is the father of Sergei Volkov, who became the first, second-generation cosmonaut. Mr. Volkov amongst other awards was also awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, the title Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR and the Friendship of Peoples award.

The manager of the Coral beach Hotel Mr. Pambos Michael, who was very pleased with having met Mr. Volkov, stated that “Alexander Volkov is not only a legend but has become a very good friend. He will soon be returning to Cyprus as he informed us where he will continue to enjoy the beautiful weather and the clear atmosphere we have, where he is able to see and contemplate the universe with which he has connected his entire life”

It is worth mentioning that the Soviet Union broke up in 1991 and at the time Volkov was orbiting Earth with Sergei K. Krikalev, "the last citizens of the USSR". Having gone into orbit as Soviet citizens, they returned to Earth as Russian citizens.
