Pafos European Capital of Culture in 2017

The achievement of winner of European Capital of Culture in 2017 was a great day for Pafos, not just the city but for the entire Pafos District.
The city of Pafos was selected over contender Nicosia as the European Capital of Culture in 2017 by an independent selection panel in September 2012.
Pafos’ proposal was based on the idea of an “open-air factory” where culture and art meet people by taking them to where people meet, to parks, streets and neighborhoods. Limassol was a third contender that was eliminated last December leaving Nicosia and Pafos to contest.
The European Capital of Culture is a city designated by the European Union for a period of one calendar year during which it organises a series of cultural events with a strong European dimension.
Preparing a European Capital of Culture can be an opportunity for the city to generate considerable, social ,economic and cultural  benefits and it can help foster urban regeneration, change the city's image and raise its visibility and profile on an international scale.
The Leptos Group Congratulates all those from all parts of the community who helped the municipality win the bid.. We should all be very proud that the team work, dedication, and great pride in their town proved, in the end, to be the winning formula.
