Training for Gold in Coral Beach Hotel & Resort

The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort features one large outdoor fresh water Olympic Size Swimming Pool according to the rules as defined by the La Federatio Internationale de Natation (FINA). The Olympic pool and the mild Winter Climate of Paphos attracts many Olympic athletes as well as swimming club associations to choose this location for their warm winter training in the lead up to major competitions. The Olympic Pool is also open to individual hotel guests at certain times each day when there is a life guard on duty.

The Olympic Pool is 50 meters in length (between touch panels), 25 meters wide and it has a constant depth of 2 meters. The 25 meters width allows for 10 lanes to be 2.5 meters wide. If required the Olympic Pool can be separated in 8 lanes 2.5 meters wide allowing for Championships and Olympic Games. The type of the pool is overflow classic, and it has footrest in all four sides.

Our very own Cypriot Para-Olympian Carolina Pelentridou selects the high caliber sporting facilities of the Leptos Group when training for serious competitions. The Leptos Group offers the unique combination of high quality training facilities together with the comforts and conveniences of a five star resort, ideal for the tough training schedules of a professional athlete. The Olympic swimming pool is adjoining the five star Coral Beach Hotel and Resort allowing athletes to combine training both in the water and out of the water, using the fully equipped gym and spa facilities of the resort.

Rūta Meilutytė the Lithuanian swimmer that currently holds the world record of 100m breastroke at the World swimming championships 2013 in Barcelona (01:04:35) was recently staying and training at the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort facilities. At the age of 15, she had already broken eleven Lithuanian womens’ swimming records. At the 2011 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival Meilutytė won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, silver in the 50m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m freestyle. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Meilutytė won the gold medal in the women's 100 meter breaststroke, becoming the first Lithuanian swimmer since Lithuania's Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union in 1990 to earn an Olympic medal in swimming. At age 15, she is also the youngest Lithuanian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. In the semi-final she broke the European record in the 100 m breastroke.

We are very proud to have been the selected training ground for such talented athletes that are very careful and particular with their venue choices. The Leptos Group and the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort look forward to hosting more such clubs and Olympians.
