More than 75 projects worth over €230 million were announced for the Paphos district on Tuesday by President Nikos Christodoulides, continuing a government initiative to strengthen ties with local communities.
The projects span tourism, culture, education, health, social care, infrastructure, defence, and the environment, aiming for balanced development.
A flagship initiative is the €165,000m² Paphos Marina, set to host 1,000 boats, create hundreds of jobs, and boost the district’s tourism profile. Cultural works include a new park and amphitheatre in Acheleia, upgrades to the archaeological museum, and renovations of historic sites.
Education projects involve expanding all-day schools, opening six new ones, and upgrading facilities in Timi, Chlorakas, and Emba. Healthcare upgrades centre on Paphos general hospital, with expansions to the ER, day care, and paediatric units, plus a new pulmonology clinic.
Social care initiatives include new elderly centres in Chlorakas, while major infrastructure projects cover the Paphos-Polis highway, bypass roads, and key avenue upgrades. Environmental plans include a €14.7m desalination unit in Kissosnerga, coastal defences, and a new fire station in Peyia.
The Andreas Papandreou airbase will be upgraded with U.S. collaboration, alongside a new road linking Paphos, Yeroskipou, and the airport. Town square redevelopments, roadworks in multiple villages, and a sustainable plan for the Akamas National Forest Park are also underway.
The government says the initiatives will improve daily life while strengthening Paphos as a hub for tourism, culture, and sustainable growth.
